Book Festival 2012!!

Our annual Book Festival was once again a great celebration of books and reading!

This year we had an amazing blast off by our favourite children's author Craig Smith, we had a very successful Book Fair with a visit from Clifford. We made the most amazing monster bookmarks in the second week of the festival and to end our celebration we all dressed up as our favourite book character!  This wonderful day wouldn’t have been the same without all the Cats in the Hat, Mad Hatters, vampires, fairies, witches, princesses, smurfs, cowboys and pirates!   Once again we would love to thank all parents and caregivers for supporting our Book Fair and for magically transforming your children into a book character for the day and for making this wonderful celebration happen for us all.   The end of the celebration doesn't mean the end of reading, please keep reading to and with your children every day and all through the summer, take them to the library and while you are there why not treat yourself to a book as well!

Library lunchtimes

We are having such a wonderful time every lunchtime in the library, we really thought it would be worth sharing some of the photos we have taken.  What on earth would we do without our superhero student librarians, our boardgames, our colouring pencils, the puzzles and storytimes?  We spend about 25 minutes in the library and when we walk out the door we have a big smile on our face and feel completely relaxed and ready for an afternoon of learning!

Time to celebrate!

Have you ever tried having a meeting with your mouth full of blueberry and chocolate muffin?  We have!   It's not easy but it can be done!  Every end of Term our group of Librarians celebrate 'the Term that was' and discuss 'the Term that will be'.  It's fantastic to sit together and share ideas, receive rewards and eat muffins!

What an awesome team we have this year!

Lots of books in T.P.P.S Library

Hi my name is Hannah
There are lots of books in the school Library. Some are about mermaids, others are about ANZAC day or Cat in the Hat.
We have lots of friendly librarians and a kind library leader Mrs Van Nijlen. Our library boss this year is Logan from Room 4.
In the library we have 8 computers for people who are good. Each Friday people go on the library blog.
This is me and Mrs Van Nijlen. We are librarians, we give out  3 P.P.P tickets every lunchtime
to children who walk and whisper in the library, so every person gets a chance to win a Mc Donalds voucher at assembly

Hi I am Babita. I am honoured to be selected as the room 2 class librarian after I filled out a librarian form.
I have always wanted to be a helping person and now here I am being a librarian. I think reading is great
knowledge for kids and people all over the world. I love being a librarian it is a great pleasure. When I found out that I was the librarian I was very proud of myself. I hope kids and adults have courage to read.

Online books

Hi my name is Thomas.  I am the Library Leader and i'm going to tell you about online books.

Each Thursday at the library I run a session called 'online books' at the sports bell. At the sports bell I take 8 children to go onto the library blog where we have a fun online books time. We can go on the books and reading links on the library blog. Our 2 most popular sites on the library blog are Dr. Suess and Geronimo Stilton. If you're wondering what to do on a rainy day you can go on Safari and click on Library Blog then go up to the top and you will see 'Books and Reading Links'.  Click to choose your website.

If you want to do online books on Thursdays at school then when the sports bell rings you need to line up at the library and wait for Mrs. Van Nijlen to open the door, then we sit down on the mat. Mrs Van Nijlen will ask who would like to do online books, then she will pick 8 people to go to the computer corner to visit the library blog and books and reading links.  We'll see you there!

Ross Kinnaird School visit!

On Tuesday 6 September we had the honour to see professional NZ children’s book Illustrator Ross Kinnaird in action!  We got together in the hall to see this very talented artist and heard lots of laughter and giggles when he made Mrs. Hartley turn into a very elegant egg-laying cartoon character!
Some children were lucky to be invited for a hands-on afternoon workshop with Ross Kinnaird.  He sure has sparked some dreams and made art and book characters come to life!  The art of illustrating suddenly has a whole new dimension for Te Puke Primary School students and we all went home that day with a pencil behind our ears and a head full of ideas!
Children who can’t get enough of Ross Kinnaird can visit his fun blog full of his latest books and funny cartoons: http://rosskinnaird.blogspot.com/

Sometimes famous people come to our library!

Just before the school holidays Tony Ryall came to our school library.  He is the Minister of Health.  We found out that he is not only very clever at being a Minister, he is really really good at storytelling too!  Of course when a famous person comes to our school and sits in our pretty storytellers chair we have to take photos.  If you are a famous person then you are now officially invited to come and try out our storytellers chair!

Thank you Tony Ryall, that was fantastic!

It is fun to go to the library because books are free.
It is fun there.
The  rules are walk and whisper and there are lots of books.
Do you know about books?
They are so cool because they make your brain grow.
Now you know about why we go to the library.
